Wedding Crashers is the second episode of the third season of Locke & Key. It aired on August 10, 2022.
Summary[]
Duncan's wedding day brings a welcome surprise - and provides the perfect opportunity for uninvited guests to search the house. Bode discovers a new key.
Plot[]
Duncan Locke and his fiancée Brian Rogan arrive at Keyhouse as the Lockes prepare for their wedding and reception. Tyler surprises the family on his return, but intends to leave for Montana again soon after the wedding. Just before the ceremony, Bode stumbles upon a key with an hourglass detail. Using it on the grandfather clock in the Keyhouse entrance hall, he is transported back in time to the 18th century where he witnesses his ancestors Benjamin and Miranda Locke experiment with the Harlequin chest, a vessel that becomes magically impenetrable when locked with the corresponding key. The siblings notice Bode and interrogate him, but he returns to the present before long.
He uses the key again to take Jamie Bennett (whose father is also attending the wedding) into the past, and speak to a young Duncan. Bode is intent on seeing his father, but time runs out again before he can do so. In the present, Duncan does not remember interacting with Bode because of the key's effects. He confiscates the Timeshift Key from his nephew on account of its unpredictability and gives it to Nina for safekeeping.
During the reception, Nina and Josh share a dance, and their relationship deepens. Ellie Whedon runs into former classmate Gordie Shaw, who implies that he wanted to be part of her friend group in high school (the previous Keepers of the Keys). He invites her to reapply for her old track team coach position at Matheson Academy. While Kinsey tries to convince Tyler to stick around, he notices the Chain Key worn as a pendant around her neck, and suddenly recalls one of their fights against Dodge. Kinsey gives him more alcohol to bring back more of his memory and asks for his consent to have the Memory Key used on him, but Tyler refuses upon remembering his time with his former girlfriend Jackie Veda and the truth about her death.
Captain Frederick Gideon uses the Echo Key to summon two of his trusted lieutenants who died during the American Revolution as echoes: James Bolton and Samuel Coffey. Not being demons, they can freely steal keys from the Lockes. After bringing them safely to the outside world using the Anywhere Key, Gideon leads them in searching Keyhouse for the keys during Duncan's wedding. The soldiers take the unattended Plant Key and find Bode's key catalog, but are unable to open the Mending Cabinet.
Tyler is attacked by the soldiers when he goes back to the manor to destress, but Kinsey arrives in the nick of time, and the siblings fend their assailants off with the Chain Key and the Great Lock. Tyler forgets the details of the ordeal when his alcohol intoxication wears off, and advises Kinsey to seek help from the police. As Duncan and Brian leave for their honeymoon, Bode notices Nina and Josh sharing a kiss. He and Kinsey deduce that the intruders were echoes because of them not suffering any injuries, and Nina notices that the Plant Key is missing. Bode suggests that they move the magic items to the Harlequin chest as soon as they find its key, and Tyler decides to stay with his family for the time being.
