The Timeshift Clock is the grandfather clock of Keyhouse. When used with the Timeshift Key it allows the user to travel back in time to witness the history of Keyhouse.
History[]
Graphic Novels[]
The Timeshift Clock was created by Harland Locke sometime prior to 1912. Its original purpose is unclear, but Chamberlin Locke would use it to revisit precious moments with his then recently deceased son Ian. Chamberlin considered this a more safe and responsible method of seeing Ian again rather than using the Echo Key.[1]
Around 1988, the Tamers of the Tempest used the clock to gather information about the Black Door.[2] Erin and Rendell used the clock to travel back to when the Black Door was first opened and witnessed the conditions of demonic possession; Erin later recalled this observation when she suspected that Lucas Caravaggio was not himself, concluding that Lucas had been possessed.[3]
By the time the Locke children moved to Keyhouse in 2011, the Timeshift Key remained on top of the clock; the clock itself was set at the date May 29, 1988, presumably the last date it was used for.[2] Bode Locke tried to activate the clock with the Head Key and failed.[4]
When Tyler, influenced by Kinsey's fears and tears, attempted to destroy Keyhouse, he knocked over the clock and discovered the key.[5] With the clock and key, they learned about events surrounding the keys' origins,[6] and the Tamers of the Tempest's history with Dodge.[7]
The Clock was destroyed when Keyhouse burned down during the final battle against Dodge in 2012.[8]
It is currently unknown if the Clock was rebuilt by Tyler and/or Duncan, or if it was magically repaired when Tyler created the new Keyhouse with the Keyhouse Key.
Netflix Series[]

The Timeshift clock is located in the foyer of Keyhouse, underneath the stairs to the second floor.[9] Its existence is inferred by the appearance of the Timeshift Key in Mark Cho's map of Keyhouse.[9]
The clock later presents itself to Bode, where he discovers the Timeshift Key hidden on the minute hand.[10]
Properties[]
The grandfather clock, when opened with its key, has a date slot selection that replays events of Keyhouse past for the user to witness. The user can select the month, day, and year of the destination. Due to the affixed "1" in place of the Millennium slot, the user cannot travel before or beyond the first Millennium.[7] The earliest date available is January 13, 1775, the date Benjamin and Miranda Locke first encountered the Black Door.[6] The latest date available is December 31, 1999.[7]
The user cannot interfere nor interact with the past, though it can be used to gain information.[6][7]
The clock can also be used to learn about the keys themselves. Within the frame of the clock is an index that lists dates and images of each key, representing the function and date each key was made.[7]
The dates are as follows:
- January 13th-15th, 1775 (Omega Key)
- January 24th, 1775 (Ghost Key)
- June 2nd, - 24th 1775 (Anywhere Key and Echo Key)
- July 4th, 1775 (Giant Key)
- July 6th, 1775
- September 19th 1775
