The Premiere is the first episode of the second season of Locke & Key. It aired on October 22, 2021.
Summary[]
Gabe forges an unholy alliance with Eden. Kinsey prepares for the premiere of the Savini Squad's horror film. Duncan arrives at Keyhouse with big news.
Plot[]
The episode opens with a trio of British soldiers entering the Drowning Caves in 1775. Their captain stumbles upon the unprotected gateway to the demon world before the American revolutionaries pursuing them draw near, and the soldiers decide to hold their last stand in the cave. During the firefight, one of the British soldiers is struck by a pellet of Whispering Iron and possessed by a demon, and his captain watches him kill a revolutionary with uncanny strength before being blown back through the portal by a musket round. The British captain then places himself before the portal, deliberately allowing himself to be possessed.
In the present day, Gabe and Eden Hawkins scour the area of the caves in front of the Black Door for pellets of Whispering Iron. After finding a few chunks, a pair of coast guards appear and ask them to leave. Eden makes quick work of them using the Crown of Shadows.
Later, Kinsey Locke meets up with Gabe to distribute flyers for the Savini Squad's debut film The Splattering. When Kinsey suggests they invite Scot Cavendish to help, Gabe says he's busy. Kinsey is subtly crestfallen, but Gabe takes note of her reaction. Meanwhile, Tyler Locke uses the Head Key to help his girlfriend Jackie Veda instantly absorb her summer reading. Daniel Mutuku drops by Keyhouse to update Nina Locke on the search for Ellie Whedon: after months without fresh leads, the police is classifying her search as a cold case. That night, Duncan Locke and his boyfriend Brian have dinner with the Lockes, and they reveal their plans to marry after Brian returns from a work trip. Brian encourages Nina to start looking for love again.
Gabe and Eden take ownership of a cabin and forge deep in the woods after killing its occupant. Eden expresses frustration at not being able to take the keys from the Lockes without their permission, and suggests impersonating Kinsey using the Identity Key. Gabe reveals to her that the key cannot change its user's appearance to that of an existing person, and demonstrates this by turning into his Dodge (tall, dark-haired woman) persona. He can take on Lucas Caravaggio's appearance only because that was his original appearance at the time he was possessed.
At the premiere of The Splattering, Gabe makes a big show of publicly expressing affection toward Kinsey, to Scot's discomfort. Through a rather awkward encounter, Scot introduces Kinsey to the film's composer, Abby, and Kinsey believes the two of them are dating. During the screening, Eden leaves the theater to get more food and ends up murdering and partially consuming the snack bar employee. Gabe goes to check on her and they use the Anywhere Key to hide the body. Nina happens to catch them in the act, but is unable to retain the memory of witnessing magic. Tyler discovers that Jackie, whose eighteenth birthday is approaching, is also showing signs of memory loss where magic is concerned.
At the post-screening party, Gabe threatens Eden with violence for almost blowing their cover, and they both return to their cabin. Scot assures Kinsey that he and Abby are not dating, and he reveals that he applied to the film program at Rochester College in the UK, and is waiting for their acceptance. Kinsey congratulates him, but appears conflicted when in private. At Keyhouse, she tries to relax in her own headspace, but finds that she can't stop thinking about Scot. When Tyler brings up Jackie's memory loss, Kinsey assures him that they will find a solution for her.
In the cabin in the woods, Gabe and Eden forge a new magic key using the Whispering Iron they collected.
