The Great Lock is an independent keyhole that serves as the guardian of the catacombs under Keyhouse, including the pump controls. It can be controlled with the Chain Key.
History[]
While trying to break into Keyhouse Manor, a gang of criminals called the Brougham Brothers accidentally stumbled into the Great Lock, which incapacitated them and left them for Chamberlin Locke to interrogate.[1]
In 1915, Chamberlin relocated the Great Lock to the Vault of Shadows which had some of the most powerful keys inside, to protect them from being used in World War I.[2] In 1927, it was relocated to the Harlequin Wardrobe.[3]
On February 11, Dodge used the Great Lock to attack the Locke siblings, who fought it with both the Chain Key and the Hercules Necklace.[4] After neutralizing it, the siblings moved the Great Lock to the pipe controls.[5]
Netflix Series[]
The Great Lock is shown as a small common padlock. It was initially hidden behind the panels in Keyhouse basement when Erin recovered it. At the winter festival, Erin activates the Great Lock on Dodge in a final attempt to stop him, but she is knocked down by Eden Hawkins, who takes both the Great Lock and its key from her.[6]
It was later used by Dodge to secure Bode and Kinsey.[7]
In the final battle against Dodge, the demon uses the Chain Key and the Great Lock on Kinsey in an attempt to kill her. However, Tyler kills the demon with the Alpha Key before she can succeed.[8]
During Frederick Gideon, Samuel Coffey and James Bolton's attack on Keyhouse, Tyler uses the Chain Key and the Great Lock to drive them off.[9]
After realizing that a time-displaced Dodge is possessing Bode, Tyler and Kinsey use the Great Lock to restrain her and drag the demon to the Ghost Door in order to exorcise her and put Bode back into his body. However, Gideon and his men lay siege to Keyhouse, blocking the Ghost Door using the Plant Key. The Lockes then use the Great Lock to keep Dodge restrained until the demon convinces them to release her to help them.[10]
Properties[]
When disturbed, it spews bronze chains from its "mouth" and binds intruders.[4]
In the Netflix series, the lock's function is when the user activates that lock with the Chain Key, the chains unleashed from the lock would be directed towards whoever the user wished to be bound.[6]
