Showrunner Carlton Cuse revealed that while Season 1 is about the children discovering all these new mysterious keys. Season 2 will be about them figuring out what that responsibility means.[5]
Despite the fact the series had not yet received an order beyond its first season, writing for a potential second season began ahead of the series' first-season premiere.[6]
On March 30, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for a second season.[7]
Filming[]
On April 17, 2021, the filming for the season reached its conclusion.[8]
Casting[]
On September 30, 2020, Aaron Ashmore and Hallea Jones were promoted to series regulars while Brendan Hines was cast as a new series regular for the second season.[9]
On October 6, 2021, it was reported that Kevin Durand had joined the cast as a new series regular for the second season.[10]

- In an interview with showrunner and executive producer, Meredith Averill, she revealed the second season would introduce various keys, including Keys that were introduced in the comics, have been hinted at in the comics, and some that will be exclusive to the Netflix series.[11]
- In addition, the season would feature easter eggs of potential keys that may appear in the third season.[12]
- Gabriel Rodriguez was involved in the design of new keys for this season.[13]
