Locke & Key: Keys to the Kingdom #5 is the twenty-third issue of the series.
Synopsis[]
Detectives - Part 1[]
When Tyler Locke and Duncan Locke leaves Cape Cod Hospital after visiting Brian Rogan who just recently woke up from his coma, Duncan mentions that the guy with the gun in their house had a lip ring, Tyler suddenly has a realization. The guy's description fits his close friend Zack Wells. Two days later Tyler is marking past days when the Dark Lady has attacked them on a calendar. Kinsey comes in and they have an argument about her dating Zack and the Omega Key. Tyler notices that Zack is gone on weekends, while all the attacks always happen on weekends.
Another four days later, Zack is competing in a sword-fighting tourney with the Lockes watching. Bode Locke is hungry so Tyler decides to take him home and make some food. While walking home, they stop at Zack's place to bring over one of Rufus Whedon's soldier figure he left at Keyhouse after Zack ripped it apart. Rufus is happy to see his soldier, but warns Tyler that he is "in enemy territory". Tyler goes into Zack's bedroom where he finds a jar filled with memories of Zack/Luke taken from various people's heads.
Zack then shows up through the use of the Anywhere Key after Kinsey Locke told him Tyler was heading home. He sets up the music box to hypnotize Tyler into obeying him and freezes. Opened the music box, Tyler falls into Zack's trap. Just when Zack is about to force Tyler to talk, Daniel Mutuku rings the doorbell.
Trivia[]
- on page 7, the calendar is marked as either 2012 or 2013 since 2012 was a leap year, that's probably intentional.
- When Tyler tried to learn ethics by putting the book in his head, it didn't work properly, but somehow, Zack (Luke) became an excellent sword-fighter in the same way.
