The Dollhouse is a toy dollhouse replica of Keyhouse Manor that, when used with the Small World Key, allows its user to manipulate Keyhouse in real life.

History[]

Graphic Novels[]

The magical Dollhouse was created by Harland Locke along with the Small World Key sometime prior or during 1912 (Ian Locke was still alive at the time); under the orders of Chamberlin Locke who intended the Dollhouse to be a birthday present for Jean and Mary Locke. Chamberlin wanted to use the Dollhouse as a teaching tool in order to teach Jean and Mary the responsibilities of being a homemaker which was what all women were expected to become at the time period. That night, in the family living room, Jean reactivated the Dollhouse to play a prank on Chamberlin but forgets to take the key out. A spider crawls into it, which causes it to manifest in large size in the actual Keyhouse. It begins hunting down the family one by one, until only Jean is left. She makes it to the living room where the spider has her cornered, but is saved when Tiberius crushes the spider inside the Dollhouse which kills the giant version with a massive paw.[1]

In 1915, Mary activated the Dollhouse again to impale a German solider with a pencil in order to save her brother, John.[2]

What happened to the Dollhouse and the Small World Key after that is unknown, as it was never found when Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode Locke were living in Keyhouse.

If the Dollhouse was stored somewhere in Keyhouse then it was most likely destroyed when Keyhouse burned down in 2012.[3]

Netflix Adaptation[]

The Dollhouse was initially in the possession of an antique owner in Matheson, Massachusetts prior to Josh Bennett arriving in Matheson. Intrigued in Matheson's history, Josh purchased the Dollhouse and kept it in his apartment at Matheson Academy.[4][5] During a playdate with Bode Locke, Jamie is shown the Small World Key, and recognizing the letters on the key's bit match that on the front door of the Dollhouse, they insert the key into the Dollhouse. The Dollhouse activates and the kids experiment with the Dollhouse's capabilities, with Bode accidentally breaking the toy bed that is in his room. When Nina sees the Dollhouse, she ends the playdate early before Bode can take the key out of the Dollhouse.

Arriving at home later, Bode finds his bed at Keyhouse suddenly broken, and gives Jamie a call to show the Dollhouse can directly change things inside Keyhouse. Jamie then places a gummy bear inside of Bode's room, which causes a life-sized gummy bear to appear, to Bode's delight. Later on, a spider enters the Dollhouse while Jamie is distracted doing homework. Now gigantic, the spider pursues the Lockes inside the real Keyhouse. Bode manages to call Jamie, and she kills the spider with a pencil, before removing the Small World Key.[5]

Jamie later reactivates the Dollhouse to trap Eden Hawkins inside a glass. Just then, Josh catches Jamie with the Dollhouse believing she is playing with it, pulls Jamie and the glass away, then takes the key out of the Dollhouse.[6]

Properties[]

When the Small World Key is inserted into the Front Door and turned; it turns the Dollhouse into a space-time replica of the real Keyhouse. All the people and animals that are in Keyhouse at the time appearing as moving dolls and all the furniture appearing in their exact place.

Anything that happens to the Dollhouse while activated happens to Keyhouse in real life. If an object is inserted into the Dollhouse, a giant version of that object appears in Keyhouse, e.g. Mary poking at her brother dolls with a pencil, at the same time causing a large pencil to come out of the walls and attack her real brothers. Living creatures that enter the house are also affected, such as when a spider crawls into the Dollhouse and manifests in an enormous form in the real Keyhouse, or when Jean's cat Tiberius crushed the spider with its paw through the dollhouse's window and the same happened to the giant in Keyhouse.[1]
