Summary[]
Gideon forces Ellie to take him to the missing key, putting an old classmate's life on the line. Nina and Bode attempt to unlock the Harlequin Chest.
Plot[]
The episode opens with a flashback to when the original Keepers of the Keys were preparing for their high school production of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Rendell Locke uses the Creation Key to bring a sketch of the beast Caliban to life, only for it to attack Gordon Shaw when he comes into the room. The Keepers erase Caliban and attempt to convince Gordie that he was seeing things, but he leaves, angry at them for condescending to him. They later use the Head Key to remove his memory of having seen Caliban and hide the Creation Key in his head for safekeeping.
In the present, the Lockes reluctantly allow Sam Lesser in James Bolton's body to help them recover the final key. Nina and Bode try to crack the Harlequin chest while the others set off for Gordie's house. Captain Frederick Gideon arrives there with Ellie Whedon as a hostage, and fatally stabs Gordie before using the Head Key to enter his head with Ellie. The kids get there later, and Rufus calls for an ambulance as Kinsey, Tyler, and Sam enter Gordie's head. There, the kids learn that he felt chronically underappreciated and overshadowed by Rendell during high school.
Rufus is forced to hide Gordie's original body when the paramedics arrive, leaving them to treat the version of him that appeared when the Head Key was used on him. Ellie uses Gordie's negative emotions to distract Gideon, and meets up with the kids, only to discover that the Creation Key was moved after she hid it. Gordie's mind deteriorates into a labyrinth as his injuries take their toll, revealing some of the happiest and most painful moments of his life. Gideon reappears to intimidate them, and Sam battles him while Kinsey locates the key.
Bode warns Josh and Jamie Bennett that Gideon is out and about, and he and his mother find that the Harlequin chest magically resists their attempts to open it or make it inaccessible to Gideon. The police arrive at Gordie's house and mistake Rufus for the killer because of the blood on his clothes. Gordie goes into fibrillation en route to the hospital, and the door leading to his head vanishes as his heart stops.

Trivia[]
- The title of this episode references the sixth issue from the graphic novels' Clockworks arc.
- The term "v-fib" used by the paramedics tending to a dying Gordie refers to ventricular fibrillation, a type of abnormality in the heartbeat leading to cardiac arrest if untreated. The "epi" they administer to him is epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, which increases the likelihood of successful resuscitation.
